Our Mission

‘Threads of Love’ is a sewing ministry that provides hand-crafted items to newborns who, due to illness or pre-maturity, are unable to go home soon after birth, or to families who experience infant death due to illness, stillbirth, or miscarriage.  The ministry is about healing and binding hearts together of parents at a time of uncertainty about their baby’s health or when they lose an infant.  Our mission is to show parents the love of Christ at a time when their personal pain is hard to endure and to let them know that God is faithful.  Through acts of obedience and donation, His work can and will continue.  ‘Threads of Love’ is a national organization with over 100 chapters in the US and Canada.  Visit the national organization website: www.threadsoflove.org.

The Charlotte Area Chapter

The Local Charlotte Chapter of Threads of Love was chartered in May of 2004.  The chapter was organized by a group of employees at Bank of America’s corporate headquarters through the company's ‘Team Bank of America’ Volunteer network.  Since then, our chapter has been sponsored by the outreach ministry of Family of Faith Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Concord, NC.  However our volunteers are not just bank employees or church members, but are a diverse group of people from all across the Charlotte area. Our goal is to be a true community effort, with a common focus of sharing our talents and love with those in need.

We provide clothing, blankets and other handmade articles for tiny premature and sick infants, as well as bereavement items to those families suffering through an infant death.  Currently we deliver items each month to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Northeast Medical Center in Concord, and CMC-University.  We desire to show God’s love to the parents and loved ones of these babies in their time of uncertainty.  Perhaps those who are experiencing incomprehensible pain may know a peace and serenity that extends beyond the situation.  We want to simply be there to bring the unspoken message of God’s presence and His infinite love and compassion.

As Christians, we are all given a gift and are expected to develop and use it to collectively support and comfort one another.  Through all circumstances we serve God and he has been continually faithful – providing all the necessities of this ministry as it grows.

We have regular meetings to complete packets, work on items, teach each other and share ideas.  All are welcome to join us in our efforts!

Want to know more or get involved?

If you would like to become a Threads of Love volunteer, we invite you to join us!  Visit our Opportunities page to find out how you can contribute your time and skills and/or our Contact Us page to fill out our interest form.  We are always looking for sewers and crafters who can provide their time and talents to produce the items distributed.  However, no special skills are needed – if you can put stuffing in a sock, you can make a Lovie Doll, and we are happy to teach beginners who want to learn to sew the packets.  We provide pre-cut packets for assembly of most items, or volunteers are welcome to provide their own materials.  Patterns and instruction are also provided.

Even if you can’t sew, we can use your help!  In addition to creating the items, we need volunteers who can assist us by:

bullet Cutting out fabric for pre-cut packets
bullet Donating fabric, threads, trims, yarn, socks and other materials, or recruiting donations for us
bullet Scheduling a ‘Doll Party’ with civic groups, Sunday School classes, Girl Scouts, etc
bullet Praying for the success of our chapter and for the families we serve
bullet Monetary Donations (all donations are tax deductible)
